Burnout Hits Men Too!

You know, burnout isn't just for the gals; guys feel the heat too (and so do non and trans gendered people)! Men face a unique set of challenges that we often gloss over when we are focused on privilege. That gets brought up in all these episodes and each of the fabulous men that have come on the pod have handled it gracefully!

Men's Burnout Stories on FRIED. The Burnout Podcast

Hold onto your hats, fellas! FRIED spills the beans on how bros from all walks of life deal with burnout. From work-life balance dramas to battling the infamous "I can handle it all" syndrome, these tales are real, raw, and relatable AF!

Jim Young has been on FRIED twice! Here and here. Not only does Jim share his burnout story vulnerably, he shares his acknowledgment of privilege and his desire to use that privilege to help along the mission to #endburnoutculture. Jim is a friend and a fabulous person. These episodes will reveal how 'tough guys' can beat burnout, no matter their title.

My listeners were asking for a burnout story of someone who burnt out at their corporate job and didn't quit and become a coach. LOL. Newton was the answer to this question. This is an incredibly powerful episode that shares how Newton was looking not only at his job but his home life and his ability to show up as a husband and a father.

Raj opens up the conversation around men's mental health from a cross cultural background and speaks freely about the fear of being ignored, the fight against other people's expectations, family rivalries, and feeling less than. With an incredible story and an even better outcome, Raj's story helps all of us to feel a little more understood and a little less alone.

Dex's story is a deep dive into cPTSD or complex PTSD as Dex opened up about his upbringing and all the baggage that came along with it. This episode is a critical reminder that no matter what someone looks like or how much privilege you assume they have - everyone has a story. Dex shares how his heart attack and subsequent hospital stays sparked a time of healing for him that he now shares with the world.

Jeff dropped some serious (and fun ;)) wisdom during this episode. Right in the beginning he shared this sentence that people have been finding and sharing on IG since it was originally posted over 2 years ago. “Burnout, at its deepest level, is the sum total of hundreds and thousands of tiny betrayals of purpose.” (6:25-6:36)". Jeff shares how he uses the infusion of play and fun to combat burnout and teaches us how we can do the same.

In this power packed episode, Daniel shared how he infused his brain with happiness in order to help himself through being imprisoned, being burnt out, and finding out he is autistic. Dan’s own burnout was catalyzed by his fixation on others’ opinions. He found that he was putting so much weight on what others may or may not have been thinking about him that he lost sight of what really mattered in his life. He spent many years contemplating suicide and was stopped only by the thought of what others might think if he botched the attempt. No holds barred in this episode - give it a listen!

“If you are no longer curious, the best of your life is behind you because the best of your life is being curious,” shares Dan Sykes, Founder of the Somatic Training Network and author of Somatic Fanatic. Dan’s burnout came as a result of a midlife crisis. He found relief in the somatic arts, the art of training the nervous system, and aims to share the importance of nervous system training with the world.

**TW: This episode contains a description of a violent hate crime.** After experiencing a hate crime, Andrew found himself dealing with the aftereffects. Burnout found him soon afterward. In a stressful dentist hygienist position, Andrew realized that he could help other people by creating a product for the clenched jaws so often associated with stress - and thus, Otis Dental was born!

FRIED's mission to #endburnoutculture is lasting. As FRIED's host, I am committed to finding ways for all of us, together, to create spaces outside of burnout culture that we can all live in a little more comfortably. My hope is that these episodes bring solace and the opportunity to heal.
